he aim of this series of workshops that

are hosted annually is to ensure that
Tresearch topics are aligned with real

world challenges faced by the Gibela manufac-
turing plant. The concept is that industry profes-

sionals engage researchers and address some
of the workplace challenges for new topic devel-

opment as well as research agenda alignment.

This initiative was created to ensure that
industrial experts understand available applied

research on the one hand and on the other, for
the researchers to gain enhanced insight into

real industrial research problems so that their
research does not end up becoming ‘blue-sky’,

but rather,applied research with social,
economic and technology impact.

The Gibela Research chair hosted the 3rd

annual workshop on work challenges (GROWS)
within manufacturing from the 24 to the 25 of
