Steering Committee
Chairperson Remarks
The purpose of this report is to inform,
educate and communicate the progress of
the GIbela-TUT Research Chair’s activities
with stakeholders and interested parties.
The research chair has been assigned a
transformational agenda for the research
and innovations previously disadvantaged
individuals. My steering committtee and the
Researrch Chair (Prof K. Mpofu) are crystal
clear on the research chair’s priorities,
which include innovation in manufacturing
technology and skill development.
Since its inception, this project has produced

both doctoral and master’s degree graduates, which is an encouraging development. In
addition, we have observed significant advancements in industry-specific or specialized
research and innovation, which led to the development of an incubator called Rail
Manufacturing Centre For Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (RMCERI). The incubator
had a tough start due to the centre manager’s resignation during COVID-19. Sizwe
attempted to build organisational processes, but the pandemic did not help hs health. We
can only thank God for allowing him to recover and restart is life, and we wish him the best
of luck. Martin Manmohan was just appointed as the new centre manager. Martin started
the incubator when it was at its lowest, and he appears to be making significant progress
in securing secondary funding.
I would like to welcom you to read this report so that you can learn about the work we are
doing. We are so inspired as a team by everyday people doing extraordinary things.
