vi To develop a well-prepared corps of next-generation
researchers – postgraduate students, postdoctoral
fellows and young staff members.
The GROWS workshop continued to be a pillar of preparing next generation researchers
amidst the various efforts to expose the young researchers to conferences online. New
staff have been engaged to counterbalance the staff who departed during the same
period. This demonstrates the calibre of trained individuals as they are being absorbed by
traditional and comprehensive universities.
v To increase income for and from research and innovation through a diversity of
approaches, sources, partnerships and alliances nationally, regionally, in Africa
and globally.
The research outputs generated by the chair continued to provide complementary
support to the activities of the chair. An equivalent amount of support to that received
by the chair was received from various funders thus ensuring the sustainability of the
activities of the chair through the diversification of support sources for research funding.
iv To foster effective and efficient leadership, governance and management systems
that track and value continuous improvement, accountability for results, and fast
and strategic decision-making.
Through the Steering Committee, Management Committee and various research team
structures, the activities of the chair are provided with collective strategic and operational
direction to support the mandate of the chair.
