Prof. K Mpofu, the lead facilitator, hosted an academic journal writing workshop at
           the Blyde Canyon Forever resort in Mpumalanga, from 19-24 September 2021 along
           with Prof. Mpofu was Dr MG Kanakana-Katumba, Executive Dean – FEBE and HOD
           of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Mr T Nenzhelele. The reviewers included
           Dr OT Adenuga, Dr R Muvunzi research chair post-doctoral fellows, Dr T Zhowa post-
           Doctoral fellow: NRF SARChI Research Chair: Innovation Studies and Dr G Ogunbiyi.
           They  worked  throughout  the  workshop  as  editors  of  the  journals  of  the  students.


           To write a compelling journal article effectively as academics, the
           participants should be able to:
           • Know how to prepare and write a research journal article.
           • Create a logical framework on the structure of the journal paper.
           • Know how to structure a journal article.
           • Make effective decisions towards the finalisation of a journal article.


           The participants will know and understand:
           • The general structure for writing an academic journal article
           • How to search for the literature in their area focus
           • How to cite relevant references to a journal article.

           This programme applies to any activity which relates to:
           •  Introducing  the  process  of  journal  article  writing  to  promote  the  techniques  and
              strategies.
           • Facilitating reflection on journal article writing and allowing participants to understand

             writing-focused arguments.
           • Improving the quality of all participants’ research outputs.

           Milestones were set for each day, students were grouped into teams of three, with
           one peer reviewer in each group and one critical reader, and at the end of the day, the
           work would be considered by the editors.


           The author of the first journal article to be accepted received a special award as a
           motivator for the participants.
