GROWS (GIBELA RESEARCH ON
                                               WORK CHALLENGES WORKSHOP)



                         he  Tshwane  University  of  Technology
                         held its 4th annual GROWS workshop
                   Tfrom  24-26  May  2021  at  the  Kedar
                   Heritage  Lodge,  Conference  Centre  &  Spa,
                   Rustenburg, South Africa. The theme of the
                   whole conference was Transitional Innovation.

                   A  diversity  of  people  from  different  sectors
                   or institutions attended the workshop, which
                   was thought-provoking and very educational
                   at  the  same  time.  More  than  30  students
                   who  are  working  towards  their  Masters  of
                   Engineering in the Department of Engineering
                   and  Post-Doctorate  degrees  presented
                   papers  and  joined  the  conference  virtually.
                   On the second day of the conference, some
                   of  the  students  received  prizes  for  their
                   work  according  to  the  level  of  their  study.

                   The aim of this annual series of workshops is
                   to ensure that research topics are aligned with
                   real-world challenges faced by the company.
                   The concept  is that industry  professionals
                   engage researchers and address some of  Mr Joseph Mudau: Gibela Rail
                   the workplace challenges in the development  Transport Consortium
                   of new topics as well as the alignment with        researchers to  gain a deeper insight into
                   the  research  agenda.  This  initiative  was      real industrial research problems so  that
                   created to ensure that industrial  experts         their research does not end up becoming
                   understand the available applied research on       ‘blue-sky’ but rather, applied research with
                   the one hand and on the other hand, for the        social, economic and technological impact.
