MS MONA’S
GRADUATION STORY
studied M Eng. in Engineering Management.
My dissertation was a system dynamics
Iapproach for the reduction of scrap and rework
in an automotive manufacturing company.
The study was aimed at developing a system
dynamics model for studying causalities and
feedback relationships for defects, which
contributes to the scrapping and rework
of vehicles. This was achieved by
consulting the company documents
and developing system dynamics models. The research demonstrated the usefulness of
the system dynamics modelling tool for solving problems in the automotive manufacturing
sector cost-effectively. The MerSETA Intelligent Funding made my research journey
successful and memorable by:
Financing my university tuition fees, including the printing and binding of the
Masters books.
Financing all required research resources, i.e. laptop and Internet costs.
Financing my involvement in conferences to share my research work, learn
from and benchmark with other researchers in the field.
Covering publishing costs: this did not only help me share my research
findings but also, I learned a lot whilst working on the articles and I am now
putting this knowledge to good use.
Ensuring monthly progress reporting to Chair to ensure that research
milestones are met and achieved on time.
I will forever be grateful for receiving the funding. It helped me to achieve my research
goals and I would like to recommend that the funding continues and be extended to
other candidates so that they can also contribute to the rail and automotive industry
body of knowledge.
